New Music Review - ‘Replacement Blonde’ by Becca Caffyn

Replacement Blonde is the sophomore release from Becca Caffyn, released on the 29th July 2022. PC: Christian Tiandrawinata.

Becca Caffyn today released her sophomore single, Replacement Blonde, that will make you feel like slow dancing, allowing you to envelope yourself in her gloriously calming voice to kick off the weekend.

There has been this recent major surge of young talent coming out of all corners of New Zealand in the past year and I can say, with confidence, that Becca is one that I have been very blown away by with her skillset and vocalism that reaches new heights.

Replacement Blonde is a silky smooth, down-to-earth track that hits all of the right notes from every angle, bringing hints of sadness, yet hope at the same time. Written by Becca independently in her bedroom last year, the song was not meant to be heard outside of those four walls, however, I feel that it’s a huge boss woman move to release this tune that is filled with such soul and personability, I applaud Becca for making this track into a single for listeners to be taken away by.

Replacement Blonde was bought to fruition with the help of Will McGillivray and Joe Faris who helped produce and master this glorious track that will turn your eyes into a river with its powerhouse beauty - have some tissues on standby.

Becca knows how to reel you in with Replacement Blonde, telling a story of teenage infatuation and dealing with the heartbreak aftermath that comes with it, but at the same time, remembering the little moments that once were, allowing the good memories to fill a cup that sometimes can be empty after going through a situation such as missing someone or being covered in hurt.

Becca pours a lot of emotion into Replacement Blonde, it almost feels as though my heart has been broken by the same person that Becca has been. It is evident that Becca has taken a lot from her energy and given it to this song to make it beyond beautiful.

From the stunning guitar strums, to the soft tempo, Replacement Blonde comes together to tell such a big story within the 3 and a half minutes of the track which is neatly produced, packaged and well looked after.

Keep your eyes peeled for Becca’s debut EP, set to be released later on this year!
