Congratulations on your newest single, Isn't It Nice! Can you give readers a rundown on what the track is about?
Natassja: “Isn’t It Nice?”, at its core is about trying to convince yourself and the people around you that reigniting an old flame is more than okay to do, since you felt happy with them. The track talks about how nice it could and can be to feel that way, despite the unserious nature of the relationship itself. TLDR; a song about being delusional, haha!
If you could liken your music to any animal, which animal would it be and why?
Natassja: That’s a tough question!! I’d probably say a bird? I think with my love of harmonies all throughout the music I make, it reminds me of birds a little bit, haha! That and the fact that the Rio soundtrack is one of my favourites would probably be the main reasons why.
What do you feel has been your biggest challenge being a young person in the NZ music scene?
Natassja: I believe that being young in this industry is both a blessing and a curse. Being a music student especially, there are plenty of opportunities that are offered to me. However, due to the busy nature of being a full-time student, it is almost impossible to find the time to accept these opportunities or even have time to make music at all. I definitely know that I am lucky to have these opportunities as a student, it is frustrating at times to have to turn things down due to being one.
What has been the most surreal moment you've had recently?
Natassja: Honestly probably the making and finishing of the new single! I sent an idea to my very talented mate Myshaan - who produced the song - and we ended up recording the rough idea of it in one session. I wrote the second verse while we were recording too, which was so, so fun. Myshaan’s so great to work with and it was just so incredibly surreal to have the song be written, recorded and mastered in such a small time!
What would your dream festival line-up look like?
Natassja: Lizzy McAlpine, Bruno Major, Billie Eilish, Mac Ayres, boygenius, Clairo and SZA.
What's next for you?
Natassja: Hopefully an EP on the way! I’ve been saying that for a few years now, but fingers crossed that I actually release one sometime soon. I’ve written quite a few songs the past year that I’m super proud of, so either way I’m excited to share those with the world in an EP or not.
