Memorable, engaging, stunning.

Just a few words that I can say that describe the night that was, celebrating There’s A Tuesday’s recent hometown show in Christchurch last week to showcase their debut album, Blush, which was released on the 11th of April 2025.

It may have been miserable outside, however, the vibes inside were anything but. Opening the evening up saw There’s A Tuesday’s good friend and highly talented producer, Goodwill (Will McGillivray), put on an absolute delightfully entertaining set with his two bandmates. Goodwill filled the room with easy-listening, positive energy and inviting songs that were perfect for the evening that was.

Goodwill took the stage first and surprised us with his spark

There’s A Tuesday took the stage not long after, and the crowd went wild. It was their first hometown gig in a while, and they were very proud to announce that this show was the most tickets they’ve ever sold.

There’s A Tuesday have this unique way of being themselves; bringing anybody who may feel different to the forefront, allowing them to feel accepted, no matter what walk of life they come from. There’s A Tuesday feel as though they are the generational heroes that we not only know, but that we need in our lives, and that sends me into a constant spiral of appreciation for them.

The focus of the Blush tour is to of course, promote the new album and There’s A Tuesday did that, with a full performance of each song, carefully crafted to engage each listener inside The Church Pub.

Background: Angus (Gus) Murray. Foreground: Nat Hutton

Blush is the work of four very close friends, Nat, Minnie, Gus and Joel, who have taken an immense amount of time over the past five years to make this album what it is, and the show was exactly the same: an energetic, unique experience that captured the hearts of many and made for a very memorable evening that is hard to forget.

Each member of There’s A Tuesday brings their own energy to the stage: you’ve got everything from edgy rocker, to sweet, to fun, even hilarious (Joel doing a shoey was a first!). There are more adjectives to describe them, but unfortunately, this review would go on forever if I didn’t stop there.

While the audience were getting to know the lyrics to the new songs off of Blush, there were a couple of hardcore fans who had learnt the tunes within the week of the album being released, a true testament to how much of an impact There’s A Tuesday have on the local community.

Minnie Robberds

From tunes like Bad Things, Cotton Mouth, Brighton, to the iconic Amsterdam, and my personal favourite, Baby Blue as an encore, the setlist and evening was selected gracefully and with gentle care to put together an atmosphere that held a beautiful space for all, while remaining true to who the band are.

The set-up of the venue was pretty special, too. If you’ve ever been to a previous There’s A Tuesday show, you may have seen a hand-painted banner in the background, which are always beautifully made by the talented Bradley King from The Butlers. This tour, he painted the Blush album artwork and even made cardboard cut-outs of the tiger from the cover, also. Having small touches like that adds so much to environment, and it’s brilliant to see his art in other capacities, besides music.

Joel Becker

Above the bar, there was a huge digital board with a photo displaying the band, taken the day of the album release, which made it feel even more real as to how important this event was.

Blush is a darling of an album, the sensation of it feels like the most authentic version of There’s A Tuesday. By no means am I saying that their previous releases have not been authentic, however, for someone who has been following them for five years now, I can feel a different aura to their earlier music, and that is remarkable, to say the least.

Gus Murray

They speak about topics that are still a little taboo to be open about, such as being part of the queer community, and worrying about long distance love, things like that. They bring perspectives on topics that I am a little less than knowledgeable about, so I imagine they are enabling education to others who are taking the time to listen at the same time.

Overall, There’s A Tuesday are a spectacular band, with a whole lot of compassion for their music and their fans, so being able to see them go from strength to strength is exceptional and very wholesome, to say the least.

Catch them on tour throughout New Zealand - tickets are available to the remaining shows on their website, which is listed below.
