Gig Review: Colour Thursdays, Ft. Amber Carly Williams, CAITLIN and Quinn Mannix, 22/9/2022

Colour Thursdays, ft. Amber Carly Williams, CAITLIN and Quinn Mannix was an absolute hit. PC: Colour Thursdays.

Another week, another Colour Thursdays at the Dux and this time around, we had the polar opposite of last week’s show. Featuring Amber Carly Williams, CAITLIN and Quinn Mannix, it was time to take in all of the laidback vibes of the local scene and send it into space with the indie-pop moments that were presented to us.

These three artists are the new generation that are proving the older generations wrong - you often hear that late teens/early twenties are not here to work; however, Amber, CAITLIN and Quinn are here to shut those falsity claims down with the amount of effective effort that they put in to getting their music out there which is majorly impressive and endearing.

This evening was one full of light-heartedness and slower tastes, however, it was still a special one to be in the crowd for.

Quinn Mannix was the first act to take the stage, giving off some serious calming vibes with his delightful covers.

Up first was a special guest of the evening, the incredibly cool, calm and collected Quinn Mannix, who played a few genuinely rad covers that got the audience swaying, getting everyone hyped for the evening. Quinn’s presence is delightful - full of sweet tones and melodic stillness, his set was a really solid way to bring the evening to life. Quinn even bought Amber on stage for an original song they’d written within half an hour towards the end, which was a pleasant surprise and really had me going “wow! They’re a great duo.” I am anticipating that this won’t be the last we hear from these dynamic two.

CAITLIN played songs from her new EP, along with a couple of outstanding covers, also.

CAITLIN graced the platform as the second act of the night, letting her sparkly personality and fun side shine on through. CAITLIN bought this direct hit of epic to the Upper Dux and having just released her EP, States, not too long ago, this was the perfect way to get her voice out there to promote her exceptional new tunes which in turn, allowed those who were there to become enthralled with her music, gaining her some new fans in the process. The happiness that was pulled from her performance with her band was beyond magical and that held up throughout her entire set. From playing her own catchy songs, to covers of bands such as Spacey Jane’s Booster Seat, CAITLIN put her own into showcasing what she has to offer which is more than you could imagine. CAITLIN and her band are ones to keep on alert. I was highly impressed with what I heard and am looking forward to seeing CAITLIN expand in her musical endeavours.

Amber Carly Williams’ first headlining show with her band was a smashing hit!

Amber Carly Williams was the final act of the night, which was momentous for many reasons, however, one being that this was Amber’s first headlining show with her band. If you’ve not heard of Amber or seen her around, then there is every chance that you are regretting your decision to not have been to one of her shows yet. After seeing Amber first perform at Bay Dreams 2021, I was excited to have the opportunity to see her live again last Thursday and she exceeded all expectations that I had. Having grown so much in the past year and a half, it was a lovely reality to see what she has worked on and how much she has been able to embody her own youthfulness and become broader in her sound over that time, it was obvious that Amber has taken a lot of time to create and utilise different ways of working on the genres that perfectly suit her.

Amber has this powerful voice that will kick your butt like dynamite, leaving you in awe of her, wishing that we could all have the powerhouse vocalism and incredibly cool band behind us that she does. Amber strings together these luxurious lyrics that entwine exceptionally well with how her set flows and glows. There is no doubt that the practice behind this live show was worked on passionately, the amount of care that had been put into pulling it together was a real hit. Amber may be an emerging artist; however, she is not sacrificing a thing about her true-to-herself persona to get to where she is thriving to be. Her performance was resolute and enjoyable. A wonderful young musician to see live.

Thank you to Colour Thursdays and the acts for allowing me to come along and review the show - it was a beautifully chilled out time and I loved every performance.
