Gig Review: Just Monet and The Theo Trio at Riverside Cantina, 8/6/2023
Striking elegance was cast upon the private sector of Riverside Cantina’s eatery on Thursday, 8th June when Just Monet and her band, The Theo Trio, took the stage to give us a rewind through time with jazz that melted all worries away.
Monet and The Theo Trio are a classy act - the four paired together made this outstanding performance glow brighter than the walls of Riverside Cantina could contain.
Bringing a bucket load of jazz covers and ending on an original of Monet’s ensured that the evening was packed full of wowing moments and delicately placed songs in order of how they should have been heard - down to each decade from the 1900s through until now. The performance, aptly titled Jazz Through The Ages, had the audience captivated, allowing the magic of Monet’s voice to flow through the open cantina, letting anyone passing by or listeners below hear what they were missing out on during the sold out show.
Monet and The Theo Trio may be young, however, they have this poise about them that sometimes we fail to see during gigs. It is obvious that Monet has crafted her passion for music over an extended period of time and has not let anything stop her (such as her Dad not enjoying when she sings one of the particular songs she covers!)
The remainder of The Theo Trio were heavily involved in the show they put on, also. The look of concentration, dedication and pride they held on their faces really came through. A lovely mix of bass (cello, bass guitar), drums and keys topped off the night for the sweet, soulful Thursday.
